Families of Conformal Tori of Revolution in the 3–sphere

For all positive integers n we construct a 1–parameter family of conformal tori of revolution in the 3–sphere with n bulges. These tori arise by Darboux transformations of constant mean curvature tori in the 3–sphere but do not have constant mean curvature in S.

‘the Quaternionic Kp Hierarchy and Conformally Immersed 2-tori in the 4-sphere’

The quaternionic KP hierarchy is the integrable hierarchy of p.d.e obtained by replacing the complex numbers with the quaternions in the standard construction of the KP hierarchy and its solutions; it is equivalent to what is often called the Davey-Stewartson II hierarchy. This article studies its relationship with the theory of conformally immersed tori in the 4-sphere via quaternionic holomor...

Extrinsic sphere and totally umbilical submanifolds in Finsler spaces

‎Based on a definition for circle in Finsler space‎, ‎recently proposed by one of the present authors and Z‎. ‎Shen‎, ‎a natural definition of extrinsic sphere in Finsler geometry is given and it is shown that a connected submanifold of a Finsler manifold is totally umbilical and has non-zero parallel mean curvature vector field‎, ‎if and only if its circles coincide with circles of the ambient...

Skew Loops in Flat Tori

We produce skew loops—loops having no pair of parallel tangent lines—homotopic to any loop in a flat torus or other quotient of Rn . The interesting case here is n = 3 . More subtly for any n , we characterize the homotopy classes that will contain a skew loop having a specified loop τ ⊂ S as tangent indicatrix.

The Euclidean Distortion of Flat Tori

We show that for every n-dimensional lattice L the torus Rn/L can be embedded with distortion O(n ·√log n) into a Hilbert space. This improves the exponential upper bound of O(n) due to Khot and Naor (FOCS 2005, Math. Annal. 2006) and gets close to their lower bound of Ω( √ n). We also obtain tight bounds for certain families of lattices. Our main new ingredient is an embedding that maps any po...
